Soft landscaping works in the form of seeding and coir matt installation has continued across the site in the ponds and swales and will continue in the coming weeks. This is visible across the site by the sandy/light brown coloured matting.
Drainage works have continued through the period with the installation of outfall drainage to the swales.
Utility diversion works continue with further diversions completed within the A904 new footpath area and new ducting being installed in preparation for diversion works. Further diversion works are currently being planned and will commence shortly.
Test pile works have been carried out with design verification ongoing prior to the commencement of the permanent piles in the near future. These permanent piles will see the commencement of utility protection slabs at key areas of the project.
Following the designers review of settlement and testing at the Alexander Avenue link road, works have now recommenced in the area on the construction of the new road. Works will continue here until this section of road is complete.
This has also released material to install surcharge on the section of new carriageway from the Stadium roundabout to Westfield roundabout. This is area 5 of 7 areas which require to undergo settlement.
In the Midthorn area of the site, temporary works have been installed in order to complete some initial site clearance works and install surcharge to start the settlement period in this area. This is area 6 of 7 areas requiring settlement, leaving 1 further area in the Westmains area that has still to commence the surcharge and settlement process.
To allow the next stage of construction works to commence, Traffic management is being planned for the section of road on the A9 from Stadium roundabout to Etna roundabout. This will be in the from of narrow lanes maintaining 2 way traffic in each direction, will provide safe working space and permit the construction of the new carriageway in this section.
Traffic management is being planned for early November with some night time closures required to install the barrier system. Further information will be release in due course.
Educational Engagement – The Big Design Challenge
The Big Design Challenge Programme has been launched in all mainstream High schools in Falkirk, with over 5 pupils participating. The team hand delivered resources to each school w/o 9th September, and the final presentation are planned for November, to coincide with Scottish Careers week. Each school will receive a ‘meet the expert’ visit form a BB staff member to offer additional support (2 visits have been completed to date), and each school will be invited on to site for a project tour. The predicted learning hours for the initiative is circa 350 hours.
