We are aware that an email has been circulated by the Falkirk Supporters’ Society regarding pedestrian access and safety in the Westfield area.
Safety remains our priority for everyone who lives, works or travels through the A9/A904 corridor – including supporters travelling to and from matches, visitors to the Helix, and local residents.
As there is a natural surge in crowd numbers immediately before and after matches, managing access around major sporting events requires close coordination between several agencies.
For this reason, we continue to review arrangements with Falkirk Football Club, Police Scotland and resilience partners to ensure pedestrian routes remain clearly signed, accessible and appropriate.
The A9/A904 Improvement Project is a major infrastructure scheme and temporary traffic management often requires changes to familiar routes to maintain safe access while construction is underway.
During this period, designated pedestrian diversion routes have been in place to maintain safe access. These alternative routes were developed as part of the project’s construction plan and are designed to guide pedestrians away from traffic and construction activity. All routes follow level, accessible paths with pedestrian direction signage and are illuminated during hours of darkness.
These routes provide the safest and most accessible way through the area while work is ongoing, and have been communicated through the project website, Council channels, local media and via Falkirk Football Club’s matchday guides that are available to fans.
We encourage all supporters to use the designated pedestrian diversion routes that are in place and would welcome Falkirk Supporters’ Society’s support in promoting awareness of these routes among their members.

When complete, the A9/A904 Improvement project will significantly enhance pedestrian safety and access in the area.
This includes:
The style and location of crossings were established as part of the design process and independently reviewed through a road safety audit.

We expect key pedestrian infrastructure around Westfield Roundabout to be operational by autumn 2026, with the remainder of the project completed in early 2027.
The project team has requested a further meeting with Falkirk Football Club and reached out to Falkirk Supporters’ Society to discuss the concerns raised and provide a detailed update on the permanent pedestrian arrangements included within the approved scheme.
We remain committed to working constructively with Falkirk Football Club and other partners to support safe matchday access during construction and beyond.
